Sneak peek of the progress on the front porch

It was a beautiful weekend at the Glenn House. We celebrated the 47th Annual Inman Park Festival with a porch party, parade, tour of homes, and lots of Gnomes. 755 to be exact.

The Inman Park Festival began in the 1970’s as an effort to raise awareness about the revitalization of the neighborhood. Ever since then, it has remained one of Atlanta’s favorite neighborhood events.

People near and far fill the streets of Inman Park to shop local artist markets, listen to live music, enjoy the parade, and tour the beautiful historic homes. We toured several homes on Friday afternoon, learning about each one’s restoration journey and history.

The parade route passes right in front of the Glenn House. This year my sister Laura carried the parade banner, and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons sought to beat the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of gnomes in the world.

The most magical part of Festival was the dozens of visitors that stopped to read about our project at the sign in front of the house. Engaging with new people, answering questions about our project, and scheduling future tours brightened our day.

This week we are studying the historic photo in more depth than ever before as we try to reconstruct the front porch, its roof, and scroll pediment. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing photos and videos of how we are rebuilding it.

Have a happy week!
